Well, I watched commandn and in there webpicks section they talked about a website called portableapps.com. Portableapps.com allows you to put applications on flash drives and launch them from it.
For example I am running GIMP portable which allows me to use GIMP anywhere. Other programmes include:
- Firefox
- open office
- Abiword
- Nvu
- Filezilla
- VLC media player
- and many more
They are currentley BETA testing some oprtablle applications such as Audacity.
Obvousily these apps DO NOT need to be installed on the system itself to use them.
Check it out
well, i'm trying out some new peices of software. The first one is Evolution mail client. It was made for linux and they didn't make a windows version but i found someone who ported it. To tell you the truth I had a really hardtime typing "Evalution mail for windows" in google.lol. anyway it seems really good apart from every time I try to set an alarm in my calander it crashes.
The second peice of software is'nt really "new" but is the next version of everyones favourite browser firefox. Yep, i'm testing firefox Beta 2.0. It's user interface has been polished and to me it seems a bit faster, infact the only thing I don't like is that Sage my RSS reader dosen't support it yet (how am I going to live with out my RSS feeds) but that's not mozzilas fault. All in all it's safe to say you are going to like this. Go grab the it.
Oh yeah, I think the next Beta for skype has been released too.Yay.
Remember I talked about Cider, well maybe you won't need it if you just want play starCraft because a video has poped up on youtube of a guy who is running a touch screen and playing starCraft on Linux using Wine!
Has anyone else tried ubuntu yet because it's pretty good. But Ubuntu is the only form of linux I have tried so far so I don't know how it compares to the others. I never realized It was so easy to install Linux and to be able to try Ubuntu without effecting your system is a brilliant idea. I made a post on my site about Ubuntu and how easy it was to use.
Just thought i might talk about it a little bit.
That's right, Thingamablog works and it works well, have tested it and added a commenting system. I now have changed the templatte byt still have the header image to change, then i need to make it more "homely" but so far so good. You can check the unfinished site out here.
I have made my site (sorta) but i haven't uploaded it because it just doesn't meet my needs, therefore I am going to use a program that I tried to use a long time ago but I messed it up and couldn't be bothered with it. The program is called thingamablog which is a program used to make a blog but does not require any PHP and is just CSS and HTML. I have seen it being used but the templates are ugly so i will have a bit of work to do but i will get there. It should do everything i need.
It allows you to create your entries and post them and It creates an XML file (RSS feed) but for some reason it does not have a commenting system which is stupid because it's called thingamablog but i can easily fix that. The program is also opensource.
